Boy And Girl Scouts Getting Ready To Participate In A Hike To Battle Childhood Obesity
Date: 30th May 2009
With the sole objective of creating awareness on the increasing prevalence of childhood obesity, a “No Child Left Inside” hike would begin at Newburgh 's Mount Saint Mary College and is scheduled to culminate at Dutchess Stadium after crossing the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge . According to sources, Girl Scouts as well as Boy Scouts from the Hudson Valley are likely to participate in the hike.
Further, it is known that the scouting event would kick start with an opening ceremony organized at Mount Saint Mary at around 9 a.m. Thereafter, the participants would undertake a 3.5-mile hike that would lead them across the bridge, upwards up Route 9D and finally after taking part in a brief lunch at Dutchess Stadium, the ceremony would be over.
Jason Barlow, President of the Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council, states that the exploration program is considered to be a healthy solution for removing kids from screen time and involving them in outdoor activities. However, he also makes it apparent that the young generation now-a-days is more prone to spend around 56 hours on a weekly basis in front of a particular screen and hence the “No Child Left Inside" exploration program was conceptualized to encourage children to get involved in outdoors and connect with nature.
Sources reveal that the Hudson Valley Renegades, Town of Fishkill, Town of Newburgh, City of Newburgh, the New York state Bridge Authority and adjoining law enforcement agencies have joined hands to construct a safe route so that above 400 Scouts and their families can participate in the hike.
Referring to the scouting expedition program, Diego Aviles, chief operating officer for the Boy Scouts of America mentions that the “Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council” has decided to team up for an important issue impacting the youngsters of Hudson Valley and he also made it apparent that split funds would be collected from the event to support outdoor activities for youngsters.
