Obese Kids are More Than Twice at Risk for Diabetes
Obesity has always been linked to Diabetes but according to a new research study it is equally bad for children as well. According to this latest research, children who are obese are more than twice as likely as normal weight children to run the risk of being threatened with Diabetes.
The Research was conducted by the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor , that estimated that around 229,000 children suffer from Diabetes in America out of which one-third of it are obese. This combination of obesity and diabetes among the children may soon become a huge pressure on the nation's health care system.
"Among school-aged children, obese children have a greater than twofold chance of having diabetes, compared with children of normal weight," study author Dr. Joyce Lee, of the division of pediatric endocrinology and the Child Health Evaluation Unit, said in a prepared statement. Among the school-going children obese kids have more than double chances of getting struck with diabetes. It is indeed a cause of concern that how these kids will receive health care as they grow older.
The survey analyzed the data of the year 2003-2004 from the National Survey of Children's Health and the data used for this study did not make any difference between type1 and type2 diabetes. Type1 diabetes is the inherited form of diabetes whereas type 2 which is much common is the body's resistance to insulin.
The study showed that how the diabetes among the obese children can become an epidemic like threat for the nation.
